Great Modern Artists A - Z

I picked up this book at TKMAXX whilst I was just shopping for nothing in particular. I saw it and thought well, this could be very well for University!

The book's blurb says:
'Andy Tuohy's striking portraits provide the ultimate introduction to the world of modern art, from Josef Albers to Larry Zox, Via Basquiat, Kahlo, and Warhol, among many more....'
'With text by Art historian Christopher Masters, this is an accessible and covetable A-Z guide to 52 KEY Global Artists of the Modern Age.'

As said previously I picked up this book at TKMAXX for £8.99, I probably could have found this book either cheaper or more expensive elsewhere and I decided to just go ahead and buy it straight away. This book is very nice and has a lot of detail in it too, for the artists it gives quite a detailed paragraph as to who they are, where they studied, who they are influenced by, and so on.

I like that there was a lot of detail about the artists, and it even has a little section called 'Where to see (Artists Name's) Work' and also a 'Did you know?' section. I think that this is a nice touch as it's always nice to know where you can see these great artists' work, and especially a did you know section as you may not have heard of the artist in question and it's always nice to learn something new.

Flicking through this book I noticed Yayoi Kusama.
I had not heard of this artist before and thus I wanted to read what was on her respected page.
On the page, it basically says that: Yayoi Kusama is a Japanese artist from Matsumoto and was born in 1929. She drew on her long experience of mental illness in order to create her sculptures. She has also created zany installations and polka-dot paintings, for which she became famous.
After living in Japan for quite some time, she decided to leave the oppressive conservatism and arrived in the United States in 1957.
You can see her work in a variety of places such as:
Lillie Europe Railway Station
Los Angeles County Museum of Art
National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo*
Tate Modern, London.
Walker Art Centre, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The reason that I put the National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo* in bold with an asterisk is because I am off to Japan in June, and hopefully, I can visit this museum and see her work!

Below are some pictures which I have of my book:

Now the above image is actually a poster which I found online by the author of this book: Andy Tuohy. This is an alphabet poster of the modern artists featured in the book. You can purchase the poster on his website here for £16.95: http://www.andytuohy.co.uk/products/great-modern-artists-a-to-z-poster
